Women in Zimbabwe: Postindependence Struggles
Before the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) came power in early 1980, its leaders repeatedly emphasized the party's commitment to improving the position of women in independent Zimbabwe. Throughout the liberation struggle, black Zimbabwean women described their goal not only in terms of freedom from racial and economic oppression, but also in terms of freedom from oppressive gender relations.
