In order to further promote gender equality and women's empowerment, there is a need for women's rights organisations to adopt strategies that can target a mass base of the population if perceptions, behaviors and attitudes are to be influenced. At the sixth African Development Forum (ADF VI) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Varbah Gayflor, Liberia's Minister for Gender and Development formally launched AWDF's Popular Culture

Project. AWDF through this project will support the distribution of at least 3 locally made films which tells stories of women's empowerment and equality and which challenge patriarchal norms, commission a short film on women's rights and support community based arts and culture project.
