WORLD AIDS DAY PROGRAMME REVIEW
World AIDS Day, which is observed on December 1st of every year, was instituted in
1988 by the World Health Organization as part of efforts to keep the issue of HIV&AIDS
constantly on the agenda. AWDF's scale up response to the HIV&AIDS epidemic , in
solidarity with HIV&AIDS campaigns around the world, instituted the World AIDS Day Programme in 2003 as part of its special projects portfolio. AWDF supports women' s organizations, especially small to medium sized organizations that are poorly resourced but working directly with women in the local communities , to commemorate the day.
The World AIDS Day Programme is part of AWDF's comprehensive HIV&AIDS programme and seeks to reiterate the devastating nature of HIV&AIDS on women especially.
